KSU condemns army for closing a gate to Mawshbuit village
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has condemned the army authorities for closing the gate erected on a road connecting Happy Valley to Mawshbuit village.
This came after an alleged clash broke out between the army and the people from the area on Monday.
In a statement, KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said that this is not the first time that the army authorities had gone ahead closing down the gate which leads to the village.
He said as per information received from the members of the KSU Mawshbuit Unit and Nongthymmai Circle, many were being assaulted by the army personnel just because they demanded them to open the gate.
According to him, the president of the KSU Mawshbuit Unit was also one among the injured during the incident. He was admitted to a civil hospital.
In view of this, Thabah said the KSU strongly demanded the state government to take back all the lands which were forcefully occupied by the army in order for people to live and move around in peace.
According to him, this would also help to decongest Shillong city to a great extent.
