KSU demands implementation of ILP on its 41st anniversary
SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today asked the state government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system if the Meghalaya Resident, Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016 is found to be “weak”.
“If the state government feels that the Act (MRSSA, 2016) is weak then it should consider the immediate implementation of the ILP system in the state,” KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar said while addressing at a meeting to mark the 41st anniversary of the Union, here on Wednesday.
He was referring to the move of the state government to amend the Meghalaya Resident, Safety and Security Act, 2016 in the form an ordinance. The MRSSA is part of the government’s comprehensive mechanisms to check influx and illegal immigration into the state.
“Even though we welcome the comprehensive mechanism but we want to make it clear that we have not abandon our demand for the implementation of ILP,” Marngar said.
Informing that memorandum on this regard was also submitted to the state government and all 60 MLAs last year, the KSU chief however lamented that the political leaders have instead use the issue of ILP for their personal interests.
“They (political leaders) have misuse the issue of ILP during election time but not a single leader was seen raising the same in the Assembly,” he said.
On the long pending inter-state boundary dispute with Assam, Marngar said that it is high time for the state government to wake up from its slumber and start taking the issue seriously to ensure that the problem is resolve at the earliest.
Slamming the indifferent attitude of the state government towards the teachers, he said it is disheartening to see the plight of the teachers in the state due to failure of the government to pay their salary.
“We demand the government to address the problems faced by the teachers in the state,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa besides both former and present leaders of the Union.
