KSU demands NEHU to permit colleges for opening PG courses
SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to grant permission to deserving colleges to introduce PG courses as per norms laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The demand was made by a delegation of the KSU-NEHU Unit during a meeting with Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. SK Srivastava on Thursday.
Publicity secretary of the Union Richest Malngiang in a statement said, “We have submitted a memorandum demanding that the University to start the master degree programs in the different colleges affiliated to NEHU.”
This is because after observing that many students after graduation were deprived to take up further studies due to lack of seats in the University, he said.
Stating that there are around 70 colleges which are affiliated with NEHU, he however said that the Union is of the opinion that permission should be granted only to those colleges which fulfil the UGC norms.
Malngiang informed that the authority of the university has assured the delegation to grant permission to those colleges which have submitted applications for the purpose of opening PG courses in their respective institutes on condition that they fulfil the requirements.
They also informed that submission of application by the colleges will be allowed till October, he said.
