KSU demands suspension of DGP, police officers involved in alleged fake encounter
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has demanded the state government to immediately suspend the Director General of Police (DGP) and the police officers involved in the August 13-firing incident that resulted to the death of the former self-styled general secretary of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
“We demand the government to suspend the DGP and the police officers who led the operation team that gunned down the former HNLC general secretary to pave way for a free and fair investigation,” KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar said in a statement issued here.
This came after the state government had announced the institution of a judicial inquiry into the incident.
The judicial inquiry will be headed by the Chairperson of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Justice T Vaiphei.
Marngar however said the KSU has maintained that the judicial inquiry should be independent in nature and that its report should bring out the truth.
