KSU seeks action against NEHU-VC for all-round failures

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded the Centre not to extend the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof SK Srivastava.

In a memorandum submitted to Amit Khare, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, KSU-NEHU Unit president Pynshai Kupar Dkhar has expressed deep concern at the sheer fall of NEHU’s rank at 74 among all the educational institutions and universities of India.

He said NEHU, being the premier university has been brought down by Prof SK Srivastava and his self-serving cronies to this pathetic level by a deadly mix of ignorance and arrogance.

“We therefore, would request you not to consider any request for extension of term of office of Prof SK Srivastava, as that will damage NEHU to an even greater extent,” Dkhar said.

“We request you to ensure that by following NEHU statutes Prof Srivastava hands over the charge to the senior most Professor, as he does not deserve to hold the post of Vice-Chancellor anymore. He is a blot on academics. On behalf of the student community of Meghalaya, we, therefore request you not to allow further degradation of NEHU by Prof Srivastava. We look forward to your appropriate action taking into account the all round failure of Prof Srivastava,” Dkhar also wrote.

The KSU further alleged that the incumbent vice chancellor has even failed to convene the Board of Research Studies even once during the near completion of five years of his tenure that falls on 23rd September, 2020.

“Prof Srivastava violated all the tender rules and rules of E tendering, as a result of which the entire university infrastructure is now in a pathetic state. Crores of rupees of public money wasted in the name of repair and maintenance. Auditor general severely indicted fiscal and financial mismanagement. All these go on to show why NEHU has gone down so miserably and could not deliver public good for students of the state of Meghalaya and Northeastern region,” it said.

The KSU also alleged the VC for protecting accused professors who are indulging in violating the modesty of women students adding the overall academic atmosphere has been completely spoiled by him.
