KSU seeks HRD minister intervention against UGC’s decision
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has sought the intervention of the Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal into the University Grant Commission (UGC)’s direction to universities for conduct of examination amid the rise of COVID-19 cases throughout the nation.
“…such decision brought forward by the UGC may cause drastic implications and pose a serious threat to the citizens of the Nation as well as the State. Thus, the Union will humbly like to seek your intervention in this matter,” KSU said in a letter to the union minister on Tuesday.
On July 6, the UGC directed the universities to conduct examinations by the end of September in offline and online mode.
Opposing this decision, chairman of the KSU-education cell, Raymond Kharjana said Shillong is known as the educational hub of the State and students from various North East states as well from other states pursue their academic careers in the region.
In North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) itself the number of final year student’s numbers to 787 out of which only 200 belongs to students from the State and 587 students from outside the State.
And there are various other private universities and colleges in which the numbers of students from other states of the Nation are quite high.
“Thus, if examinations of the students are to be conducted, then it is expected to see a huge number of students migrating to the State from all around the Nation. This will pose a serious threat to the safety and security in regards to the health concerns of people as it is seen that rise of COVID – 19 cases in Meghalaya is largely due to returnees from other parts of the Nation,” Kharjana stated in the letter.
“And the Union also realises that if all these students migrate to the State, it is going to be a herculean task for the State, universities, colleges and local authorities to keep a check on them so that they follow the mandatory quarantine period,” he added.
Kharjana further stated that there is a huge number of students from the State who are pursuing their studies in different parts of the Nation and if examinations are to be conducted then they are ought to travel again which may pose a risk to them.

Respected education minister sir.,I am astonished to see how could u take this type of decision of conducting exam during this period ……when many r un employed that time u didn’t think abt student how they get should employed …..then in this pandemic situtaion first u say sir u give us a certificate that if anything will happen to us then u will bear our family ….what our family will do….u r telling if any disaster will come….then will we postponed our exam ….but first of all sir u should think about present not future ……who has seen future….of any one ….so stop taking decision in hurrily think sir in which it will benefit to our society and us…..and still if u don’t want to change decision it mean u r forcing us mentally and economically ……and I will say it’s not abt studies ….it’s only buisness

Sir good afternoon. Humne request from thr part of the students. We have written enough 3 semester sincere exam and it is seen our results. So based on past performance pls promote us according to our capabilities. Online exam too not going to benefit tho who donnot have good net work facility. So reconsider and have mercy on is and families ad well out future too.
