    Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Monday shut down a few banks and offices after they were found working on the occasion of the Shad Suk Mynsiem, a thanksgiving festival of the Khasis celebrated every year.  

    The banks and other private offices had remained open despite the last day of the festival being declared as a holiday by the state government.

    On being informed, activists of KSU Mawkhar Circle went and shut down the banks and offices for functioning despite being a holiday on account of the festival.

    Those closed down by the KSU includes HDFC Bank and SBI in Motphran, the Northeast Small Financial Bank in Mission compound, the Airtel office in G.S Road, the MRB Bank Iewduh Branch, the ICICI bank, the CANARA bank, the Vodafone office , the HDFC and the SBI main branch located in Khyndai Lad.

    Meanwhile the KSU also warned all offices that failed to respect special occasions and festivals observed by the Indigenous people.
