KSU shuts down tollgate in EJH

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Tuesday shut down a toll gate of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at Lumshnong village in East Jaintia Hills District. 

The action was taken by the members of the KSU Jaintia Hills District Unit after the lessee of the tollgate Eagle Company Pvt Ltd failed to obtain necessary trading license from the district council besides work permit for its labourers.

President of the Unit Ohibait Dkhar said that five days was given to the company to comply with the local law. “On expiry of this deadline, we have decided to close down this tollgate because not a single employee has any work permit,” he said. 

He said moreover despite the toll collected from vehicles, the national highway at present is in a dilapidated condition.
