KSU slams MeECL over delay to replace damaged transformers in SWKH
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has slammed the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) for its failure to replace damaged transformers due to which villages in South West Khasi Hills district are left without electricity supply for over 6 months.
In a letter to MeECL Chief Engineer (Distribution) on Tuesday, KSU Umdohlun Circle president Dusterwell K Lyngdoh said two villages Mawphansaw and Nongmluh village are currently sans power for over 6 and 5 months respectively.
He said the transformer at Mawphansaw village was damaged since November 2019, while the transformer at Nongmluh village was impaired in December 2019.
Lyngdoh also informed that the Union had met the subordinate authority at Mawkyrwat last week.
“We were informed that the transformer meant for Mawphansaw village has reached Mawkyrwat. However, regarding the damaged transformer at Nongmluh village we are astonishingly in deep surprise to know that your Subordinate Office has not taken any steps…,” he said.
The KSU leader said the inability and irresponsibility of the office to replace and rectify the two damaged transformers brought in to the residents numerous problems in the past few months.
“Therefore, (we) would like to convey before your office to kindly without any procrastination, directs your subordinate to speed up in the transportion of transformer for Mawphansaw village from Mawkyrwat and to accelerate installation of the same,” Lyngdoh demanded.
He also urged the chief engineer to immediately intervene into the delay to replace and rectify the damaged transformer at Nongmluh village.
However, for Nongmluh village, since it has consuming the most valuable times of more than five months, we therefore, would like to request your office to immediately intervene the matters in replacing and rectifying of the damaged transformer as soon as possible.
