KSU slams Personnel & AR department for creating an anomaly in the roster for recruitment of a guitar instructor
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Saturday slammed the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms for allegedly creating anomalies in the roster pertaining to the recruitment for a guitar instructor at the State Institute of Arts & Culture.
Chairman of the KSU employment monitoring cell Reuben Najiar in a statement said that the union had sought clarification from the Director of Arts and Culture in regards to the advertisement dated September 19, 2024 for the post of a guitar instructor at the State Institute of Arts & Culture.
In the memorandum also submitted to the Arts & Culture director, Najiar said, “…based on the said advertisement, there is only 1 (one) post which was advertised for ‘Guitar Instructor’ and based on the roster, the said post was allotted to Garo category. That the total strength for the post of Guitar Instructor at State Institute of Arts & Culture is 2 (two) and 1 (one) of the posts at present is already assigned to a Garo candidate.”
“Thus, it is by default that the said post advertised for should be for Khasi-Jaintia category especially after the post being vacant after the retirement of a Khasi employee but this is not the case in the present instance,” he stated.
Najiar said that during a meeting, the director and staff of Arts & Culture had explained that the direction on the matter was issued by the Personnel & AR Department and that they have no authority in this regard.
“After proper enquiry, the union found that an anomaly has been created by the Personnel & AR department in which a Garo candidate appointed to the post in 2007 has been included in the roster under the Khasi-Jaintia category, which is highly objectionable. And now when it is time to again advertise for the post, the department has created this anomaly by giving it to the Garo community, when infact a Garo was appointed under Khasi Jaintia category. This shows that 100 percent reservation has gone to the Garo category,” he stated while adding “This also shows that the government has betrayed the people of Khasi-Jaintia region because as per the agreement, it is stated that the roster will be implemented prospectively and not retrospectively.”
“Therefore, we have decided to fight for the rights of the Khasi community by putting an end to this abuse of power by the people in government. We are still waiting for an official reply from the Directorate of Arts & Culture and in the coming days, we would also meet those in the Personel & AR department for rectification of this particular anomaly,” Najiar stated.
