KSU triumph as NHAI acceded to their demands
After 30 long hours of total shutdown of the Toll Plaza at Ialong Pasyih, West Jaintia Hills District, the National Highway Authority of India humbled itself before the Khasi Students Union (KSU) as the District Administration failed to enforce the law of the lands.
The NHAI authority at around 8.30pm on Tuesday evening invited the KSU leaders for talk.
They handed over a written assurance for implementing the streetlights, footpaths and repairs of roads within one week.
The KSU leaders accepted the written assurance and return the Toll Plaza to the authority of NHAI which was under its captivity since Monday afternoon.
Notably, a group of 50 to 60 activists of the KSU Jowai Circle on Monday afternoon laid a siege and virtually captured the Toll Plaza under its possession and stopped collection of tolls and thousands of vehicles owners were delighted as they passed the Toll Plaza without paying the toll.
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Govt through the district administration,West Jaintia Hills District has failed to maintain law and order and show its helplessness to safeguard the Toll Plaza which is a national property.
