The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Lumshnong Unit has called on the Director of Health Services (MI) to urgently address the escalating crisis at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Lumshnong.
In a letter to Director of Health Services (MI) on May 24, the KSU stated that the PHC’s transformer is damaged, leading to electricity shortages and hindering water pumping operations. This has forced pregnant women to seek medical care elsewhere due to water scarcity. Additionally, irregular access to drinking water affects both the hospital and the accommodation of medical personnel, especially during dry spells.
With only four staff nurses on duty, the PHC struggles with a severe shortage in nursing staff, risking patient care, especially during night shifts. Moreover, the absence of a functional ambulance exacerbates the situation, hampering emergency response capabilities.

Despite having ultrasound machinery, the PHC lacks a trained doctor to operate it, putting the equipment at risk of damage.
The KSU stressed the urgent need for government intervention to address these issues and enhance healthcare infrastructure in Lumshnong, given the PHC’s vital role in providing medical services to the local community.
