KVIC Shillong launches 10-Day skill development training programme for fruit and vegetable processing in Mairang
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Shillong on Wednesday inaugurated a 10-day skill development training program for fruit and vegetable processing under the Agro-Based Food Processing Industry verticals of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) at Mairang Mission, Eastern West Khasi Hills.
The first batch of 20 artisans participated in the programme.
The inaugural function was attended by various dignitaries, including the State Director KVIC Shillong, officials from the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), Dorbar Shnong and the Secretary of Mairang Mission.
During the event, the State Director of KVIC, Shillong outlined the objectives of the Agro-Based Food Processing training program. These objectives include utilizing locally available raw materials and resources to create value-added products, providing sustainable income to artisans, rural unemployed youth, and farmers, imparting skill development programs with modern technologies in producing various agro-based food products, and providing improved tools, equipment, and machinery to individual artisans/groups for enhanced productivity.
The training program will focus on adopting Good Manufacturing Practices for setting up agro-based food products, reducing the loss of perishable agricultural products, promoting the establishment of processing units on farms, and providing advanced skills to selected artisans through the Center of Excellence for product diversification, packaging, and standardization.
The 10-day training program is being conducted by the master trainer and proprietor of M/s Delicacies Silda Thabah and is scheduled to conclude on July 7.
