KVK Jaintia Hills celebrates Poshan Vatika Mahabhiyan

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jaintia Hills celebrated Poshan Vatika Mahabhiyan along with Tree Plantation on Friday at KVK Farm, Wahiajer.

R Lamare, Scientific Officer, Research office, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills informed the gathering on the importance of millets  which are known to be a repository of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

M kharbuli, Farm Manager, KVK Jaintia Hills while delivering his speech stressed on the need and importance of adopting Nutri gardens for ensuring accessibility to nutrient rich fruits and vegetables and also for benefit enhancement. Farmers were also encouraged to include local herbs and vegetables in their nutri gardens along with indigenous fruit trees.

As part of the programme a demonstration by the Farm Manager, KVK Jaintia Hills on tree plantation was also held with farmers actively participating hands on planting the fruit trees in the fruit orchard of KVK.

Seeds and tree saplings were also distributed to the farmers. Altogether, 64 participants attended the programme which includes Farmers and Farm women besides the officials of the organizing departments.

Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr D Pasweth, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Jaintia Hills. He also highlights the concepts of the programme and also about millets, the nutri-cereal.
