Kyrmen Shylla elected as new UDP youth president, says party to lead Govt in 2023
Cabinet Minister and Khliehriat legislator Kyrmen Shylla on Monday was elected as the new president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) state youth wing even as he expressed confidence that the party will lead the new government in 2023.
“The new body will work hard to ensure the party wins many seats and I believe in 2023, the UDP will lead the new government,” Shylla told reporters after a meeting of the state youth wing.
Shella MLA Balajied Synrem was elected as secretary, Mawphlang MLA Eugeneson Lyngdoh as chief youth organizer, Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein, Mookaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh and Baitbari MDC Ashahel D Shira as working presidents.

Shylla further expressed confidence that he along with the other MLAs of the UDP will be re-elected in the upcoming elections.
“I believe that I and my colleagues will come back and then we will continue to work as a team,” he said adding “Even if we lose the election, we will not mind working for the party.”
The UDP has 8 MLAs in the 60-member House.
Shylla said that the youth wing will try to reach each and every corner of the state including Garo Hills, where the party has nil representation.

“We have decided to convene a meeting on March 7 to discuss issues concerning the state and accordingly take resolutions,” he said adding “We urge the people to give the only largest regional party a chance to lead the state.”
When asked, the cabinet minister said the party is also encouraging youth to come forward and contest from the UDP.
As it is today the UDP is having the highest number of youth representatives in the current Assembly, he added.
