Ladmawphlang farmers’ market showcases local products
The Mei-Ramew State Agroecology Cooperative Society successfully launched its inaugural Farmers’ Market in Ladmawphlang on September 27.
The event united farmers from various regional communities, giving them a platform to showcase and sell their organic, chemical-free produce. Organized by NESFAS, the Cooperative Society, and partner villages included Ladmawphlang, Laitsohpliah, Mawstep, and others, the market featured a wide range of organic products, including Sha Shiah Krot (root tea), Rosella jam, bayberry pickle, Sohiong jam, and wild edibles like Jatira, Jasim, and Jamyrdoh.
Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem, who attended as the Chief Guest, praised the market for promoting organic farming and empowering local farmers. He emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous food systems.
The market also attracted tourists, with visitors expressing admiration for the unique produce. NESFAS Chairperson Nestar Kharmawphlang highlighted the role of organic farming in combating climate change.
The event marked a significant step in promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting rural farmers in the region.
