Lamin-food poisoning incident claims 6 lives
A total of 6 people have died after another 14-year-old girl succumbed at a hospital in the state capital on Monday night after consuming wild mushrooms recently.
At least 18 persons from three families at Lamin village under Amlarem civil sub-division along Indo-Bangla border, turned critically ill due to suspected food poisoning.
The three families, who are neighbors, had consumed the wild mushrooms, they collected from a nearby forest.
The village headman Golden Gashnga informed that the deceased Marriaba Khonglah (14) passed away at around 11.35 pm at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
Her brother Armstrong (23) had also passed away on Sunday.
Both Marriaba and Armstrong are siblings of Katdilia Khonglah (26), who died immediately after few hours of having consumed the poisonous mushrooms.
The other deceased include Synran Khonglah (16) and Lapynshai Khonglah (28) and Morison Dhar (40).
Katdilia’s sister Wanrika is still undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS while 7 year-old Dimah Gashnga, son of Morison in Woodland Hospital, Shillong.
Meanwhile, the other ten persons have recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, home minister Lahkmen Rymbui has expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Today 04/05/2020 1 more precious soul died in NEIGRIHMS due to consuming of wild mushrooms on the 16/04/2020 from LAMIN village. Till date 6 person died and 3 are still in Hospital including 1 who was discharged 2 days back and brought back to Shillong for hospitalisation. Pls pray,” Rymbui wrote on his twitter.
