Law dept has no information of COVID-19 positive case: Sangma
Additional Secretary in-charge of the Law department, AK Sangma on Friday said there is no information of any reported COVID-19 positive case from the department.
Sangma was reacting to reports that employees in the state secretariat including from the law department, had tested positive for COVID-19, while terming the same as “unwarranted” and “without any proper verification or authentication from any authoritative source”.
However, reports of positive cases being detected from the department and other offices in the state secretariat was confirmed by the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong during his media briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the additional secretary however said, “That the officers along with the staff/peons in the department have been regularly attending office’s duty during office hours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM till September 3, and that there has been no information or whatsoever of any reported COVID-19 positive case.”
“The identity of the concerned persons who were tested positive of COVID-19 is not known except, it is stated that they are from Law department,” the statement also added.
It also said that the “unjustifiable news” linking the organization’s name i.e Law department with an individual positive case has created a fear psychosis and have also caused immense hardship and mental agony towards majority of officers and staff of the department, thereby, has adversely affected the daily functioning of the department.
Meanwhile announcing the government’s decision to go for complete sanitization of the state secretariat and its additional building, Tynsong has informed that altogether, six COVID-19 cases were detected from the state secretariat. He said these employees are those from the Finance department, Law department and Information & Public Relations department.
