Lawyers demanded stern action against erring police officer

KHLIEHRIAT: The Khliehriat Bar Association (KBA) today strongly condemned the sexual harassment faced by one of the members of the Khliehriat Bar Association (KBA).

In a letter to the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, the Association informed that in their urgent General Meeting held on Monday at Khliehriat had discussed at length the matter pertaining to the issue of sexual harassment being faced by one of the member of the BAR and the mental stress undergone by her for the last few days.

The Association said that the barbaric act committed by the In-Charge of Ladrymbai Police Outpost is highly and strongly condemnable and exhort the Police Department to carry-out the investigation of the case without any business and partiality and to ensure that justice is meted out to the victim lady advocate, who has undergone the nightmare of mental stress and harassment at the hand of said offender, who is supposed to be the custodian of Law.

The Rule of Law must be uphold at any cost in order to safeguard the safety, modesty and dignity of every practicing advocates in Khliehriat Court, especially the lady practicing advocates of the Bar, the letter read.

If advocates, who are considered to be the Officer of the Court, are not safe in the hand of a person entrusted to be the law-keeper, then who else will feel safe in the society? This barbaric act of the said offender will be taken up very seriously by the Bar, the Association said.
