LO predicts “hung house” in the two district councils
SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has predicted that there will be no clear majority for any party in the two autonomous district councils, which election results will be declared on Saturday.
“…from my inputs, we expect a hung verdict. Let us see and wait for the mandate (of the people),” Sangma told reporters here on Thursday.
Expressing confidence that the opposition Congress’ performance will be good, the former chief minister said, “We expect to touch the half way mark but we are keeping our fingers crossed but in all probability will touch the half way mark.”
Elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) were held on Wednesday amid high voting percentage.
Stating that the people of the two regions have exercised their right to franchise and use their wisdom in electing their respective representatives, Sangma said, “We will go by what is the mandate and verdict of the people and will definitely honor their verdict.”
