The theme this year is ‘Time for Nature,’ with a focus on its role in providing the essential infrastructure that supports life on Earth and human development.
Therefore, today, the JHDS has planted 110 saplings within the campus of the school.
President of JHDS, Most. Rev. Victor Lyngdoh said that it can be seen that during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the environment gets benefitted slightly, the sky becomes clear, the air is less polluted, etc. However, according to the theme of this year, it is time to protect our biodiversity because it supports all life on land and below water or we can say it is the foundation that supports all lives.
He asserted that every aspect of human health is affected by it as it provides clean air, water, food, and is a source of medicines, etc. But, in today’s world human actions like deforestation, encroachment on wildlife habitats, intensified agriculture, and acceleration of global climate change, have disturbed nature and pushed it beyond its limit.
He urged everyone that now is the time for us to respect and protect Nature so that our generation and future generations will live in peace and harmony.
Addressing to the media persons, the Director said that JHDS in partnership with the Caritas India has targeted to transform a barren land in some villages to a green belt zone through monthly plantation activities. He further said that through the FARM-III Project, JHDS is also working with the very own People Led Development (PLDA) concept which gives the opportunity to facilitate the inculcation of the habit of plantations among our communities in the future as well. In his short speech, he also said that based on the theme of this year, everyone must confer their little time for the welfare of our motherland as there is a time for everything so we must also give our precious time for Nature.
The Headmaster of Little Flower Hr. Sec School Ummulong, Fr. Polycarpus Shylla said that the school management authority will try to include the environment protection action in the students’ routine as part of their regular activities so that we will have clean surroundings to enjoy and a safer, cleaner and more prosperous future.
