LPG cylinder blast at Hajo brick kiln: 1 dead, infant among 11 injured
A tragic LPG cylinder explosion at a brick kiln in Hajo, Kamrup district claimed the life of a labourer and left 11 others injured, including a woman and a newborn baby, on Thursday night.
The explosion occurred at the labour quarters of FNB Brick Industry in Pakorkona when workers were preparing dinner. A suspected gas leak ignited the blast, causing severe damage to the quarters and leaving several trapped in the narrow space.
12 injured persons, including the infant, were rushed to AIIMS Guwahati via 108 Emergency Ambulance. They were later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for critical care.
Fire tenders from Hajo battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control.
One labourer succumbed to severe burn injuries on Friday evening, while several others remain in ICU, fighting for their lives.
Authorities suspect a leakage in the LPG cylinder led to the explosion, but a detailed investigation is underway. Officials are assessing safety measures at the brick kiln to prevent further incidents.
