LS poll results encourage us to fight, work hard for 2026 polls: Gaurav Gogoi
Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday said the result of the Lok Sabha elections encourages the leaders and workers of the Congress to fight and work hard for the next assembly elections in 2026.
Addressing a felicitation ceremony at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati, Gogoi said: “It gives us new courage. Pradyut Bordoloi retained Nagaon seat due to his strong voice in the parliament. Rakibul Hussain won Dhubri by defeating AIUDF heavyweight Badaruddin Ajmal by a record margin of votes. This is an encouragement for all leaders and workers of the party across the state.”
“We are victorious over communal forces. But if we sincerely want to make Assam free from communal politics and if we want to restore Tarun Gogoi’s peaceful Assam, we have to work hard,” Gogoi said.
“For me the election has not ended here. It was a semifinal. The final is in 2026. We have to prepare for panchayat election in November this year. We will fight and we will win,” Gogoi also said.
He said it was revealed from the election in Jorhat constituency, that when people come out, they will be victorious. The communal politics ended in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vote margin was less than Rahul Gandhi’s vote margin. Modiji secured 1.5 lakh votes while Rahulji’s score was 1.6 lakh votes.
Gogoi is confident that if people work in unison, the Congress can form the next government in Assam.
“Our candidates and workers also fought for the party in Karimganj, Silchar, Kokrajhar, Darrang-Udalguri, Barpeta, Kaziranga, Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur. There are wins and defeats in elections. I urge them not to be discouraged, but work hard to win,” Gogoi said addressing those candidates who lost the battle.
“We have rejoiced enough for our victory. We do not want more victory rallies. We have to look forward. We have to prepare for the next elections,” he also said.
Gogoi is also confident that Congress will form government in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana as the elections are knocking at the door in these states.
“I want to work for the party for two years. Please allow me to work for two years. I do not want designation. There is a fear among the people. We have to remove the fear. We have to work hard to remove the fear psychosis of the people to win the election. I will do that within two years,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Assam Congres president Bhupen Kumar Borah, MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Rakibul Hussain, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia and MLA Wazed Ali Choudhury.
