Lumparing landslip: 3 bodies yet to be retrieved
Rescue operations continued on Saturday with no trace of those missing in a massive landslide at Lumparing, Shillong.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo, the second day of the search was not successful and had to be called-off.
She said the search and rescue operations will resume again tomorrow at the site of the disaster to trace those feared trapped in the debris.
At least five persons were buried alive when a massive landslide occurred engulfing the houses of the victims at Lumparing Parmaw area on Friday early morning.
Two bodies have so far recovered during a joint rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) with the Fire & Emergency Services team.
The bodies recovered were of two women – Razia Ahmed (35) and Zaira Ahmed (50) who resided in one of the three houses affected in the landslide.
The three persons who are still missing include Feroza Khan (38), Imdad Nongrum (60) and Kayam Uddin (46).
According to local residents, the landslide occurred at around 6 am in the morning, after heavy and continuous rainfall since Thursday night.
