Man arrested for attempting to rob a woman

A man was arrested for assaulting and attempting to rob a 44-year-old woman at Sohra in East Khasi Hills District.

The incident had taken place when the man started following the victim while she was passing by the NIT Gate, in Jiva Resort – Kuttmadan Road, which is isolated.

The person also tried to pull her hand bag. However, she resisted the attempt and did not allow the person to snatch her hand bag. During that time, a vehicle passed through that road and saw the vehicle, the accused escaped taking advantage of darkness.

District police chief, Sylverster Nongtnger on Monday informed that a case was registered after an FIR was filed at the Sohra police station on July 30.

“The woman received abrasions and minor injuries during the incident. There has been no attempt to sexually assault the woman (as alleged) and the intention of the person was to rob her bag,” Nongtnger said.

The SP informed suspected person has been apprehended on the same day of the incident by the Police. According to him, investigation is under progress.
