Man arrested for murder of Snor Kharkongor
One person identified as Weles Umsong (32) was arrested for killing a 40-year-old man from Rasong village.
The body of (L) Snor Kharkongor was found in a deep gorge in a place called Mawriwar East, Pyngkya village on June 13, East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement on Tuesday.
Accordingly, a team led by Sub Inspector Elias R Marak of Madanrting police station was dispatched to the place of occurrence and reached the place of occurrence at around 4 am.
The body was found to be highly decomposed and in the morning of June 14, inquest was conducted and sent to NEIGRIHMS for conducting post mortem examination.
A UD case was registered immediately on June 20.
On June 22, an FIR was filed by the family members of (L) Snor that the deceased was suspected to be murdered.
In this connection a case was registered at Madanrting police station and investigated by the police.
Nongtnger said the investigation team zeroed down on Weles Umsong (32) an acquaintance of the deceased who was hiding in Nongwar under Sohra sub division.
From his possession, the mobile phone of the deceased was recovered.
He has admitted to the murder of the deceased and thereafter strangulating and disposing the body in the gorge, the SP said while informing that the accused will be produced in court for police remand.
