Man kills wife and stepdaughter before dying by suicide in Guwahati

A man killed his wife and stepdaughter before dying by suicide at a railway quarter in Baminimaidam, Guwahati, on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Quarter No. 417, Block K, Railway Colony.

The deceased have been identified as Julie Deka, an NF Railway employee, her 14-year-old daughter, Ritika, and her husband, Lohit Thakuria alias Ratul.

According to initial reports, Lohit Thakuria killed his wife and stepdaughter before hanging himself in another room. The bodies of the mother and daughter were found in a pool of blood, while Lohit was discovered hanging.

Before taking his life, Lohit reportedly called his brother and informed him about the killings.

Julie Deka, originally from Morigaon, had married Lohit after the death of her first husband. Ritika was born from her previous marriage.

Police officials confirmed that Lohit Thakuria had previously been arrested under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually assaulting Ritika. Authorities are investigating whether this past incident played a role in the crime.

The Assam CID has taken over the investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and motive behind the killings. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are exploring all possible angles, including personal disputes and past conflicts.
