MBoSE spelt out various reforms for SSLC Board Examination
The Meghalaya Board of Schools Education (MBoSE) notified that the from the 2026-27 academic year, the students will be required to pass all six subjects in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC).
However, it will not affect students taking the SSLC Examination during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years, nor those who need to retake any failed subjects in the 2026-27 academic year or later.
The Board issued the notification in accordance to Meghalaya Education Department letter No. EDN. 122/2024/12 dated Shillong, the 28th August, 2024 informing of the Cabinet approval in its meeting held on the 9th August on the various Examination reforms w.e.f. the Academic year 2024-2025 onwards.
According to the notification, the Board shall conduct SSLC examination twice in the same academic year where the main 1st Main Examination will be held in the month of February every year starting from the year 2025 followed by the 2nd Supplementary Examination in the month of April/May every year starting from the year 2025.
Regarding the 1ª Main Examination, the notification informed there will be new course and old course.
Under New Course Candidates, the notification said Regular-I and Regular-II Candidates: Candidates from affiliated and un-affiliated schools respectively.
For Old Course Candidates, there will be Non Regular Candidates: Failed candidates of the SSLC examination, 2024 and earlier examination and compartmental Candidates: Failed candidates of the SSLC examination, 2024 or prior.
Private Candidates implies failed candidates in the Selection Test Examination prior to SSLC Examination, 2024 and pass the Selection Test, 2024 conducted by respective DSEO’s.
There will be improvement examination only for Pass Candidates of the SSLC examination 2024 only.
Under 2nd Supplementary Examination, the notification informed that candidates who fail any subjects in the Main Examination are automatically eligible to reappear in the Supplementary Examination, with no limit on the number of subjects, in the courses of studies as noted at II above.
Further only candidates who passed in the 1st examination and wish to improve their performance in one, or two or all subjects, may appear in the 2nd examination as Improvement Candidates. This will not be applicable for candidates who appeared in their Improvement in the Main Examination.
Consequently, the maximum number of consecutive attempts allowed will be 4 (including the first attempt in Main Examination).
After this, the student will be required to re-enrol in a school as a regular student and appear as a fresh candidate.
Regarding SSLC Examination Schedule w.e.f. 2025-26 onwards, the notification informed that SSLC Main Examination shall be conducted in the first week of December every year starting from the year 2025 onwards.
Supplementary Examination shall be conducted in the month of March every year starting from the year 2026 onwards
