MCCL employees call off indefinite sit-in protest
Employees of the Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) on Thursday temporarily suspended their indefinite sit-in-protest for one week, after the management of the company assured to take up all their demands with the state government.
“The management of the MCCL has agreed to take up all demands of the employees with the state government through the chief minister Conrad K Sangma,” MCCLEU president Shanlang Lyngdoh told reporters after chairing the executive meeting of the union.
Lyngdoh said that the management has also agreed to sit and discuss with the union and all stakeholders before meeting the chief minister on June 20.
“In view of this, we have decided to temporarily suspend our agitation for one week,” he said while adding that the union will decide on its future course of action based on the outcome of the meeting on June 20.
The employees have been demanding release of pending dues, implementation of the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) and operationalization of the cement plant.
