MDA govt ready to answer to all issues during Budget session: CM
The 10-day budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence from Friday even as the state government said it is prepared to reply to issues concerning the state.
“We always do our homework in detail and whatever issues that the opposition likes to raise, definitely as a responsible government, it is our responsibility to ensure we reply and give all the details,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters before chairing a meeting of the MDA.
When asked about the Opposition bench ready to corner the government on the illegal coal issue, Sangma said, “…I don’t know as it would be incorrect for me to say anything on that as it is subjudice as of now.”
Sangma also refused to comment on the observation made by the Meghalaya High Court that the government has failed to take action on the several recommendations made and directed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
He however maintained that the government is ready to discuss whatever issues raised by the Opposition except those that are subjudice before the court. “If there is any subjudice matter then we obviously can’t take it up,” Sangma added.
When asked, Sangma informed that the five suspended Congress legislators are also attending the meeting on his invitation.
He said that five MLAs will not only strengthen the MDA in the Assembly but outside the House as well.
“I have always believed that when we are working together in a positive way in keeping the agenda of the people in mind, it is good. As I said they have come in a positive spirit to work together with the government and I am sure it will strengthen us not just in the House but even outside the House,” he said.
