MDA to convene all party meet to discuss on prevailing law & order situation
The state government has decided to soon hold an all party meeting to discuss on the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
“We will call for an all party meeting…I have already communicated to the additional chief secretary in-charge home and political to issue the necessary notification,” chief minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters here on Saturday.
According to him, many political parties have requested the need to call for an all party meeting to discuss on the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma had also shot a letter to the CM asking him to hold an all party meeting for coming out with a collective solution to end the current impasse.
The chief minister also appeal to all political parties and stakeholders to work together to restore normalcy, peace and harmony in the state.
Conrad further informed that the government would also convene a meeting with different stakeholders to ensure everybody is taken on board.
Shillong city has witnessed violent incidents in the past few days after members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) were attacked by a group at Ichamati on February 28 which led to the death of its member, Lurshai Hynñiewta.
Stabbing incidents were reported in Shillong which led to the death of one trader, and a number of people injured.
On the question that opposition wanted the govenment to institute a high level inquiry since they are not satisfied with the magisterial inquiry instituted to probe into the Ichamati incident, the chief minister however said that let the magisterial inquiry report come in.
“We will decide what further action is needed to be done,” he added.
After holding a review meeting earlier today, Conrad said that the law and order situation is very much under control.
“Overall, the situation in the State has been very much under control. No incident had taken place and things have been quite peaceful,” he said.
When asked if these security measures which are in place will continue till the board examination ends, he said that the government will always ensure that all measures are put in place. “We will not bring it down in any way,” he said.
Expressing concern that normal life and economic activities of the people have been badly hit due to the current situation, the chief minister further said that the government is trying to balance out and ensure that mechanisms are in place and minimum inconvenience is cause to the people.
