MEA stages protest over suspension of a senior engineer
The MeECL Engineers Association (MEA) today organized a protest by wearing black badges and raising slogans against the suspension order of a senior engineer H. Jyrwa by the management.
Speaking to media persons, president of MEA, PK Shullet said that the association along with other MeECL employees associations has met the suspended engineer and have found out that the suspension of Jyrwa is not justified and that all MeECL employees throughout the state are supporting the demand to reinstate him.
“The suspended engineer had served the MeECL for more than 30 years in different capacities and at different postings and is known to the department to be a no-nonsense officer who would not deviate from facts and figures” said Shullet.
Shullet said that this suspension by the management is merely an intention to tarnish the image of a clean and honest officer and could be also as a warning to other officers who refuse to bend the rules at the management’s whims and fancies to facilitate irregularities in performing official duties. He added that the MEA view this action by the management as a kind of subversive step taken to suppress and curtail the working and functioning of officers in their capacities, to work without fear or favours.
When asked on the charged face by the suspended engineer, Shullet said that the engineer faced three charges which includes failure of the Officer to perform his duty, Lack of observation of standard and procedures to obtain prior approval of the competent authority while initiating the process of power banking/swapping of energy and action by the officer has brought losses to the corporation.
“These charges levied against the suspended engineer are all baseless as especially with the accusation that his action has brought losses to the department because the main reason that led to such losses in the department is due to the mismanagement of the authority who functions with favoritism” he added.
In this regard the MEA asserted that if the management does not reinstate the suspended engineer in two weeks, the employees of MeECL across the state will intensify their protest.
