MeECL ban agitation by its engineers
The Government of Meghalaya has prohibited strikes in any essential services in order to prevent any disruption and breakdown of emergency services to the public for a period of six months.
The order was issued, after the MeECL Engineers Association has declared to wear black badges, carry placards and stick banners on the 11th August, 2020 in the premises of the offices, Power Stations and Sub-Stations of the Corporation across the State (vide its letter No.MEA/PR/CORRES-MEETINGS/2020-21/14 dated 10th August 2020).
According to the order issued by Director Corporate Affairs, “Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited is deemed to be a provider of ‘Essential Service’ as per Section 2 (1) (a) of ‘The Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980; and carrying out such action, the time and attention of the persons employed in the service of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited would be diverted from the time/attention allotted/required for the performance of their service/duty, and, the same could lead to disruption of the essential service rendered by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited.”
The order also states, that MeECL Engineers Association declaring its agitation during this period or future course of agitations is in violation of Section 3(4)(a) of The Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980′ and deemed illegal as per Section 3(4)b) of the said Act.
“Any person participating in the above stated course of action shall be liable to action as provided under Sections 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the said Act,” said A Nikhla who is the Director Corporate Affairs in an order issued.
