MeECL decides to lift loadshedding
The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has withdrawn the load shedding with immediate effect.
“… I am happy to announce that MeECL is ensuring 24 hours power supply to all parts of the state and load shedding is hereby withdrawn officially with immediate effect,” Chairman cum Managing Director of MeECL Arunkumar Kembhavi said on Monday.
He said the MeECL had withdrawn the load shedding from May 1, unofficially. However, there were some teething problems which needed sorting out.
“Despite pre-monsoon showers, our internal power generation has reached only 60MW as against the installed capacity of 350MW. We hope to reach near full capacity only by June-July,” Kembhavi said.
He said one unit of OTPC Palatana is still under preventive maintenance shutdown. NEEPCO hydro plants are also under supplying for want of rain adding because of all these issues whch are beyond our control, there is a daily shortfall of 60-80MW.
“Recent, we reached out to several independent power producers (IPPs) across the country and managed to secure optimal power arrangement,” he said.
“During these difficult times, it is our committed responsibility to ensure reliable power supply for hospitals, storage of vaccines, oxygen plants, students preparing for online exams, professionals working from home and also for the general public especially in Garo Hills to provide succor from the sultry weather,” he added.
