MeECL to clear Rs 560 Cr pending dues to NTPC by next year
The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has decided to clear over Rs 560 crore power due to National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) by next year.
Sources in the power department on Tuesday said that the MeECL has been able to neutralize the outstanding dues of all the power companies except NTPC.
“The (outstanding dues) was reduced from around Rs 664 crore to Rs 565 crore and in 20 instalments, we are paying. We hope that by next year it will be neutralized,” they said.
Stating that the MeECL is utilizing the power judiciously, an official source said that the department is asserting the need to have a mix of hydel and thermal power projects at the ratio of 60:40 to meet the demand for power in the state.
