Meeting on poll preparedness
SHILLONG: Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Matsiewdor War Nongbri on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the poll preparedness for the bye-election to the Shella Assembly seat to be held on October 21.
The meeting was attended by Zonal Magistrates, Sector Officers, Police Officials and other Election Officials of 26-Shella AC. Others present at the meeting were F Kharshiing IPS, DIG (CID), Shillong, Claudia Lyngwa IPS, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Himanshu Kumar Rai, IAS, General Observer, Rishabh Gupta, IRS, Expenditure Observer and L Kynjing, MCS, Sub-Divisional Officer (El), Sohra Civil Sub-Division.
Matsiewdor War Nongbri reviewed the preparedness on all fronts with regards to the upcoming bye election. Various issues were discussed ranging from location of Remote Polling stations, Connectivity issues and security concerns. Highlighting the problem of connectivity and accessibility which some of the polling stations could face, she stressed on the need of having a backup mechanism in order to ensure smooth conduct of election process especially on the day of polling. She also directed all the officials engaged in the election process to follow the procedures as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
L Kynjing, who is also the Returning Officer for the 26- Shella AC gave a brief presentation on the overall election preparedness for the bye poll highlighting the various sensitive and critical polling stations and the challenges faced by the constituency and the various remedial measures which they have adopted to tackle the same.
Later, Claudia Lyngwa, briefed the gathering on the elaborate security arrangement which they are making for the ensuing by polls. She said that the police are geared up for the polls and all necessary precaution and vigil will be maintained in the constituency.
Himanshu Kumar Rai, said that so far he is satisfied with the overall preparedness for the Shella bypoll and he is hopeful for a smooth and fair election on the day of the polls.
