MeFilMA welcomes Govt vision to promote film industry
The Meghalaya Film Makers Association (MeFilMA) has welcomed the budget for 2022-23 and appreciate the government of Meghalaya for its vision to promote the film industry in the state.
“We welcome the Budget announcement of the Government to earmark Rs 5 crore for film promotion. We are sure that this will go a long way in creating a platform for local filmmakers to work untiringly in their respective endeavours. While this will create job opportunities directly and indirectly, it will give a booster to the creative industry in the State,” MeFilMA president Commander Shangpliang said in a statement issued here.
He said for a long time, the MeFilMA has felt a vacuum regarding the absence of good screening venues in the state, but this visionary action of the Chief Minister of the state, will go a long way in addressing the gap.
“Of course, there are other complementary areas that need to be addressed in order for this policy to be a success at the ground, but today, we only have compliments for the government of the day,” he added.

Shangpliang said another significant announcement made in the Budget was the hosting of an international film festival in the state.
“We feel it will create a film culture which, in turn, shall help local filmmakers to make meaningful cinema and learn from the best in business the art of telling a good story. There are other benefits of this initiative also but for the MeFilMA, what is clear is that we are on course to chart a fresh course in the world of films. We feel that this festival will be an annual event and then only we would see the result,” he stated.
