Meghalaya: 2 dies of COVID-19, death toll rises to 120
Two more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 taking the death toll in the state to 120 on Sunday.
Sixty seven-year-old Harekrishna Debnath of Nagoan, Assam passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regiona Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on December 4 while sixty five-year-old Amiya Ch Momin of Balachanda Rajabala in West Garo Hills district died at the Tura civil hospital on December 5, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
Debnath was tested COVID positive on being admitted at the hospital on November 30. “The cause of death was due to cardiac arrythmia with Covid-19 pneumonia with acute kidney injury with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension,”he said.
Momin was also admitted on November 30. “She however passed away due to right upper lobe pnuemonia consolidation with acute antero lateral wall ischaemia with Covid-19 wth type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension,”Dr War informed.
Seventy-three more positive cases were also detected on Sunday.
The new cases include 58 from East Khasi Hills district, 8 Ri Bhoi district, 4 West Garo Hills district, 2 West Jaintia Hills district, and 1 North Garo Hills district.
Those tested positive also include 25 high risk contacts, 4 armed force/paramilitary force personnel and 4 returnees.
Of the 61 persons who recovered from the viral infection, Dr War said 38 are from East Khasi Hills, 15 West Garo Hills, 3 Ri Bhoi, 2 East Garo Hills, 2 North Garo Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 12,237 COVID-19 cases out of which 664 are active cases, 11,453 recovered and 120 deaths.
Dr War said the fatality rate due to COVID-19 is 0.97 percent.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 404 positive cases, West Garo Hills 138, East Garo Hills 25, West Jaintia Hills 27, Ri Bhoi 28, South West Garo Hills 15, West Khasi Hills 9, North Garo Hills 7, East Jaintia Hills 5, South West Khasi Hills 4 and South Garo Hills 2.
