Meghalaya: 2 more dies of COVID-19, 58 new cases detected
Two more persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 40 on Tuesday, even as 58 new positive cases were detected.
60-year-old Abdul Hassim from Jhalupara was declared brought dead at 6 pm at Nazareth hospital while another 41-year-old Sudip Karmakar of Laban Harisabhapara was also brought dead to Woodland hospital. Both the deceased were tested positive for COVID-19.
This was also confirmed by the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War after giving a daily update on the pandemic situation in the state.
Earlier, Dr War informed of the 58 new cases, 45 were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 5 from Ri Bhoi district, 4 from East Jaintia Hills district, 2 from East Garo Hills district and 1 each from South West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.
The break up of the new cases in East Khasi Hills include 15 high risk contacts, 12 from Golflink cluster, 4 Laban, 3 Mawprem, 6 Pynthorbah, 1 Barapathar, 1 Nongmynsong, 1 Police Bazar cluster, 1 Rilbong and 1 Keating Road while 1 armed forces/paramilitary forces in South West Garo Hills.
Most of the cases in the other districts are high risk contacts, returnees
The senior medical officer said 179 persons have also recovered from the viral infection and they include 141 from East Khasi Hills, 22 from West Garo Hills, 8 from Ri Bhoi, 3 from East Jaintia Hills, 2 each from South Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills and 1 from East Garo Hills.
He said the state has so far recorded a total of 4,791 confirmed positive cases of which 2,047 are active, 2,706 are cured and discharged and 38 have died due to the disease. With the new deaths reported, the number of fatalities in the state has gone up to 40.
East Khasi Hills is the worst affected district in the state with 1,471 cases that include 1,284 civilians and 187 AF/PF personnel, followed by East Jaintia Hills with 274 cases, 136 cases in Ri Bhoi, 107 in West Garo Hills, 15 in South West Garo Hills, 13 in West Khasi Hills, 6 each in South West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and East Garo Hills and 4 in North Garo Hills.
Of the 4,791 positive cases, 3,113 are from East Khasi Hills, 653 from West Garo Hills, 368 from Ri Bhoi, 328 from East Jaintia Hills, 109 from East Garo Hills, 64 from West Khasi Hills, 42 from West Jaintia Hills, 37 from South West Garo Hills, 37 from South Garo Hills, 32 from North Garo Hills, and 8 from South West Khasi Hills.
Till date, a total of 1,35,571 samples have been sent for testing of which 1,30,096 were found to be negative while test results of 684 are awaited. There are 39,280 entrants from outside the state.
