Meghalaya: 49 more tests positive for COVID-19, tally rises to 2,050
The total active cases in the state stood at 1,168 on Wednesday after forty-nine more persons have tested positive for COVID-19.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said 32, including 23 high risk contacts, 2 influenza like illness (ILI) cases, 2 Armed Forces/Para military Forces (AF/PF), 1 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) case, a returnee, a health worker at the MATI Corona care centre, Mawdiangdiang, 1 Anjalee random sampling test, and a low risk contact, were detected from East Khasi Hills district.
He said nine cases were also detected from East Garo Hills district of which eight are from the random test conducted at Rongjeng market and one is a returnee from Maharashtra, while six AF/PF and a civilian are from West Garo Hills district and 1 ILI case in Ri Bhoi district.
From the random testing conducted in Shillong, he said 3 positive cases of 19 were detected from Anjalee, 2 of 87 from Khyndailad while the test conducted on 23 persons at Motphran came out negative.
Dr War also informed that forty-two more patients have recovered from the viral infection today and these include 32 (27 AF/PF and 5 civilians) from West Garo Hills, 7 from East Khasi Hills and 3 from South West Garo Hills. With this, he said the total recoveries in the state have gone up to 874.
In total, East Khasi Hills has the highest number of persons infected by the coronavirus at 822 that includes 535 civilians and 287 AF/PF personnel, followed by West Garo Hills with 172 of which 102 are from AF/PF and 70 are civilians, and 78 cases, including 71 civilians and 7 AF/PF are from Ri Bhoi.
Dr War said that there has been a decrease of cases in Ri Bhoi district as 17 AF/PF personnel, who had come for training, had to go back to Assam after testing positive for the virus.
In the other districts, West Khasi Hills 43 cases, 13 in North Garo Hills, 12 each in South Garo hills and East Garo Hills, 3 in West Jaintia Hills and 1 in South West Garo Hills.
As of Wednesday, a total of 79,126 samples have been sent for testing, of which 76,645 were negative while test results of 431 are awaited. There are 31,084 entrants from outside till date.
So far, the state has recorded a total of 2,050 positive cases of which eight have died due to the deadly disease.
