Meghalaya: 5 health workers among 59 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 1,979
Fifty-nine more persons, including five health workers, have tested COVID-19 positive on Monday, taking the total active cases in the state to 1,179.
Health Minister AL Hek said fifty-five, including 46 civilians and 9 armed forces/ para military forces (AF/PF), were detected from East Khasi Hills district and four which include 2 AF/PF and 2 civilians from Ri Bhoi district.
He said the new cases in East Khasi Hills also include an OPD patient and five staff nurses at the Nazareth hospital, 30 high risk contacts, 2 from Motphran random test, 3 Anjalee random test, 2 Khyndailad random test, 1 low risk contact, and 1 returnee.
The minister also informed that 13 more patients, which include 9 from East Khas HIlls, 2 from East Jaintia Hills and one each from West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills, have recovered today, taking the total recoveries in the state to 789.
East Khasi Hills is having the higest number of active cases at 769 followed by West Garo Hills with 223 cases and 98 in Ri Bhoi.
In the other districts, West Khasi Hills has 43 cases, 12 each in East Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills, and North Garo Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills, 3 in East Garo Hills and 1 in South West Khasi Hills.
The state has so far recorded a total of 1,976 COVID-19 positive cases of which 1,179 are active and 8 deaths.
As of Monday, a total of 75,239 samples have been sent for testing of which 72,824 were found to be negative while test result of 439 are awaited. There are 30,457 entrants from outside the state till date.
