Meghalaya: 7 including former GNLA militants arrested in West Garo Hills
A seven-member armed gang which include former militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were arrested on Thursday after they were involved in abducting a person in West Garo Hills District.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) GK Iangrai informed that the West Garo Hills police have successfully nabbed seven armed miscreants, who had abducted a person from Dobasipara.
He said the victim was abducted while he was returning from East Garo Hills on June 23 near Romba Adingre village, West Garo Hills District but was later released on Wednesday evening after paying ransom money.
According to him, most of the arrested accused are from surrendered militant groups of GNLA.
One carbine, three 7.6mm Chinese made Pistols, four magazines, two live grenades and ammunition, two mobile phones and ransom money of Rs 3.26 lakh were recovered from the possession of an armed gang and duly seized.
A criminal case has been registered in Tura Police Station under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, the AIGP said.
