Meghalaya allows re-opening of shops in ‘green zone’ districts from May 11
Amid the national lockdown, the Meghalaya government has decided to allow re-opening of shops and plying of 50 per cent public and private transport across the state except in Shillong, which is falling under the orange zone, from May 11.
The decision was taken at a review meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma here on Saturday.
After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that all shops in “green zone” districts are allowed to re-open from Monday.
He however said the same is totally restricted in the Shillong agglomeration, since it has been categorized as orange zone.
In addition, Tynsong informed that public as well as private transport outside the state’s capital will now be allowed to resume up to 50 per cent from next week.
“The deputy commissioners and district transport officers are asked to workout the modalities for regulating (plying of public and private transport) on rotation basis,” he said.
Automobile, Stationary shops in Shillong to re-open:
On the other hand, the deputy CM further informed that the government has decided to provide some more relaxation in the Shillong agglomeration by allowing re-opening of automobile and stationary shops from Monday.
However, the order will not apply in the two main commercial hubs – Iewduh and Khyndailad (Police Bazar) – as they will continue to remain closed until it is decided otherwise, he stated.
According to Tynsong, the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner will take necessary steps to regulate the re-opening of these shops in Shillong.
