Meghalaya, Assam CMs to soon visit sensitive zones along inter-state border
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma will soon conduct a joint visit to some of the sensitive zones along the inter-state border to build up the confidence among the people from both the states.
Informing this on Tuesday, Sangma said, “Let me just share with you that I have been in constant touch with the Assam counterpart and we are going to meet in a couple of weeks definitely before the month end.”
“We have also decided together that a joint visit will be made especially to these sensitive zones to build up the confidence of the people and also to ensure that we ask our respective administration and our respective citizens and our respective areas and officials concerned to restrain from any kind of actions that could lead to a situation getting tense. So we will be making joint visits to these locations not all but to certain locations,” he added.
His statement came after a clash broke out between two communities at Khanduli village in West Jaintia Hills District.
When asked if such incidents will affect the border talks, the chief minister however said, “For the last 50 years these things have been going on, what we need to understand is that the reason the border talks are going on is so that precisely these kinds of incidents don’t happen.
You have to understand that is exactly the objective is. Today, these kinds of incidents are happening because there are areas of difference.”
“Therefore, we realize that it is more important for us to try and find the solution at the earliest so that none of these kinds of incidents happen in the future,” he added.
