Meghalaya assembly autumn session from Sept 10-17
The autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence from September 10 to 17.
The calendar for the upcoming session was approved during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) headed by the state Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh held here on Thursday.
There will be six working days of which government business has been allotted for September 10, 14 and 17, while for private members’ business on September 13, 15 and 16.
After the meeting, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma however said that the opposition wanted to have a longer session as the duration is not enough.
“We cannot do justice to the quantum of responsibility vested upon us to take up the issues pertaining to the interest of the people,” he said while adding “I have lots of requests in my social media platform asking the opposition to take up issues of concern of people from different walks of life.”
Asked, Sangma said “The only thing we could prevail is to increase the allotment of days for the private member business and that is for three days because the government has only three days business and we can’t be given more than three days – so we are able to have three days for private member business. We will try to optimally utilize these available days that have been allotted for private member business.”
