Meghalaya BJP to meet Reddy over ILP demand
A delegation of the state BJP will meet union minister of state for home affairs, G Kishan Reddy on Monday to discuss the long pending demand for implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
Speaking overphone from Delhi on Sunday, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie informed that the delegation has met central leaders and discussed about ILP, which is a burning issue in the state.
“However since ILP is a subject falling under the ministry of home affairs, the central leaders have advised us to meet the union home minister Amit Shah,” Mawrie said.
He said accordingly, the delegation has sought appointment with Amit Shah.
“However, we were asked to first meet with the minister of state for home affairs, G Kishan Reddy tomorrow,” he informed.
Asked, the BJP state president said that he has decided to prolong his stay in Delhi as he is waiting for an appointment with Amit Shah.
According to him, the delegation has not discuss the issue related to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which is pending for approval by the Governor.
“This is because we have decided to push for ILP. We are only raising the concern of the people of the state as it will all depend on the discussion between the Centre and the state governments,” he added.
