Meghalaya boosts Football with Rs. 3 Crore grants for Elite Clubs
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has announced the Local Football Club Support Scheme, aimed at boosting football development in Meghalaya.
This new initiative provides significant financial support to local football clubs, with elite teams in I-League 2 and above eligible for grants up to Rs. 3 Crore, and grassroots and intermediate clubs able to apply for up to Rs. 15 Lakh.
The scheme is designed to enhance infrastructure, player development, and community engagement, aligning with Mission Football’s goal to make Meghalaya a football hub.
Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the scheme’s role in fostering a vibrant football culture and encouraged local clubs to actively involve their communities.
Sangma made the announcement while addressing the press after inaugurating the 133rd Indian Oil Durand Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
He urged citizens to support local football, stating, “This investment in football is an investment in the future of our youth and the pride of our state.”
