Meghalaya Cabinet approves new GPF Rules, 2020
The state government has approved the new Meghalaya Civil Services General Provident Fund Rules, 2020.
After the cabinet meeting on Friday, Minister in-charge Law department, James K Sangma told reporters that the decision was taken based on the recommendation of the Administrative Rules and Regulations Revision Advisory Committee (ARRRAC).
He said the ARRRAC had recommended the need to repeal the Meghalaya Civil Services GPF Rules, 1985 and replace it with a new rule.
“Accordingly, the Meghalaya Civil Services General Provident Fund Rules, 2020 was approved by the cabinet,” Sangma said.
Asked, the minister said fews amendments were made to the GPF Rules, 1985. However, the government felt the need for a comprehensive review of the rules so as to update and harmonize the state rules with the national rules and also to accommodate the changing environment and requirements of the government servants.
Accordingly, the GPF Rules, 1985 was referred to the ARRAC for recommendation.
He said the committee examined the existing the GPF rules and submitted its recommendations to the government and these proposed amendments were taken up in the cabinet in December 2018 and it was duly approved.
He said but because of the voluminous nature of these proposed amendments in the rules, the ARRAC review and re-examine the whole amendment of the GPF rules approved by the cabinet incorporated all the amendments in the new rules and recommended to repeal the existing GPF rules.
“Therefore, since these amendments are found to be too exhaustive, it was recommended that the existing GPF Rules be repealed and a new Meghalaya Civil Services General Provident Fund Rules, 2020 be brought,” he said.
