Meghalaya Cabinet finalized dates for ADC polls for approval of Governor
The state Cabinet on Monday finalized the proposed dates for the conduct of the elections to the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, to be approved by the Governor CH Vijayashankar.
After chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We have decided on the scheduled for the conduct of the elections to the KHADC and JHADC. The entire schedule of the elections has been finalized and approved by the cabinet.”
He however said that the dates for the ADC polls will officially be announced following the approval of the governor.
“”Of course as you are aware all of this has to be approved by the governor and therefore, once it is approved by the governor only then can we officially announced it,” Sangma added.
Asked, the CM stated, “But the cabinet has now approved and proposed it for further approval of the Governor of our state so we await that and once we get the approval from the governor, we will be officially announcing and informing the exact dates and scheduled of the council elections.”
“It will be wrong for me to give a date as I cannot supersede the decision to be made by the governor. Only when we get the approval from the governor’s secretariat only then we can share,”he added.
