Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visit to Jowai paves the way for improved education and healthcare
In a significant move, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday visited Jowai, the administrative centre of the West Jaintia Hills district, with a clear mission to address local concerns pertaining to education and healthcare.
During the visit, Chief Minister Sangma, accompanied by local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, visited Kiang Nangbah Government College and the Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong. The primary objective was to initiate the necessary groundwork for elevating the quality of education and healthcare services in the area.
Addressing the media, Conrad K Sangma said “We aim to enhance the district headquarters, particularly in education and healthcare. Even small improvements and quick steps can have a significant impact. For instance, we’ve identified a need for more classrooms at Kiang Nangbah. I’ve asked the honourable MLA to provide a detailed report after discussing with the college management and staff, and we’ll take action based on that report.”
“We discussed issues like power supply, staffing, equipment, specialists, and hospital expansion at the Civil Hospital. I’m thankful to the college management and hospital staff for their time, he added.
“I want to assure the people, especially those in Jaintia Hills, that we are committed to improving social services in health and education. I’ve urged the honourable MLA to play an active role in this. Together, we’ll work to enhance healthcare and higher technical education for the citizens of Jaintia Hills,” he told journalists.
The visit also shed light on the long-pending Iawmusiang shopping complex project. MLA Jowai conveyed that the government is now in the process of preparing fresh estimates and will soon initiate the tendering process to bring this project to fruition, potentially boosting economic activities in the region.
Chief Minister Sangma also assured the residents of Jaintia Hills that their concerns would be given the highest priority. He encouraged continued participation from local representatives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing issues across various constituencies, including the development of the Iawmusiang shopping complex.
The Chief Minister’s visit offers a beacon of hope for improved education and healthcare services in Jaintia Hills, emphasizing the government’s dedication to the welfare of the people in Jowai and its surroundings. This initiative underscores the power of community engagement in ushering positive changes, furthering the region’s development.
